:)

I try my best not to reveal any touchy feely emotions (eeks! yikes! uncomfortable!) on a public blog, but I just have to say…life is so good right now.  I’m on a business trip to the Pitts, and am having a tremendously valuable, productive experience here. I leave a night before everyone else, and for the first time ever on a business trip – I want to stay that extra day to be with my colleagues. Amazing, huh? I’m happy with my job, happy with my friends and fam, happy with my traveling, happy, happy, happy.

And, scene.

Switching over to something completely unrelated…I’m so disappointed in Daschle. The whole situation is infuriating. Argue all you want of his political assets (which, from the little I know about him, actually seem like they would prepare him well to revamp health care) – but in such a high profile position, “inadvertently” forgetting to pay taxes is unacceptable. The whole situation is unfortunate, but we must not set precendent time and time again, forgiving public servants for their seemingly deliberate omissions of fact.

blagoavoahfkldjh

I just watched a clip of Blagojevich announcing his appointment of Roland Burris to IL’s vacant Senate seat…arg!!! Makes me so mad. The guy is deranged. Seriously. He looks incredibly smug and assured, is all shifty and jumpy as he talks…how in the world can he even believe he has such a right?

this is palin

Confidently speaking about Darfur:

“My concern has been the atrocities there in Darfur and the relevance to me with that issue as we spoke about Africa and some of the countries there that were kind of the people succumbing to the dictators and the corruption of some collapsed governments on the continent, the relevance was Alaska’s investment in Darfur with some of our permanent fund dollars.”

Uh…right. More here.

my deep political analysis ;)

Ok so live blogging lasted a total of 10 minutes because I went out to watch the election results at Ryan’s workplace. Given my awesome timing, I was on the bus when all the networks called Obama but such are the travails of a Muni-dependent gal.

So we have Obama as our president (and Biden as our veep!). Yay! I admire O for energizing America and galvanizing millions to exercise their right to vote. He will be a tremendous leader, and I look forward to watching him inspire our people. I also look forward to O’s reception on the world’s stage – this will be an interesting, and (hopefully) favorable shuffle of feelings towards our nation. I must concede, however, that McCain had a well-articulated and thoughtful concession speech, and I really do feel bad for the guy.

When I look at the national front, the naysayer in me slowly starts to creep out. It’s slightly frightening that the Democrats have such a handle on the national government. 252 Dems vs 173 Repubs in the House. 56 Dems vs 41 Repubs in the Senate. Which would lead us to a Dem speaker of the house and majority leader. Dem as our president. Granted, this is the public’s way of expressing dissatisfaction with past leadership but I hope checks and balances work as they should.

The Republicans do need to play nice though. The current headline on Fox News? “As He Savors A Historic Victory, Obama Also Faces…A WORLD OF TROUBLE” (Last phrase in caps, font size a million.) “For President-Elect Obama, a Steep Climb Ahead.” I understand the need to play into your viewers’ dissatisfaction, but the network should learn to echo McCain’s gracious sentiment.

live blogging

Haha. I’m live blogging!!

I get such shivers thinking about this (presumed) monumental outcome. Half of me wishes I had Obama-mania so the celebration would be that much sweeter, but it’s ok. I’m still satisfied over here.

I was just watching Charlie Gibson on ABC. He was going to interview a congressman but the mic wasn’t working, and the way he handled the situation live was just lovely. ABC’s news anchors are the best! First my love Peter, now Charlie.

we’re advancing!

I’m watching Obama kick McCain’s butt in electoral votes. Stunning, stunning, stunning. Currently, 155 vs. 17 – even though the popular vote is only a differential of a million or so (I’ve always thought the electoral college was a little bizarre). Regardless (before the election has been called), this is amazing!! A black man is going to lead the United States of America. I’m watching the news now and a congressman called it a “nonviolent revolution.” I love it! I do feel bad for McCain though – I don’t care what other people say, but he has poured his hearts into this…particularly through this effort, his second try.

biden for veep!

No idea if he will be, but I just remember liking him during the Democratic primaries. Given my awesome memory, I can’t recall those reasons, other than the fact that he is very refreshingly direct and doesn’t wheedle and waddle around as normal politicians do.

Incidentally, David Brooks of the Times also wrote an op-ed today wishing for Biden’s veepness.

On a similar note, kudos to Obama for deciding to text his decision out. Smart way to continue his mastery of campaigning via technology. Sneaky way to get people’s cell phone numbers and other personal information.

someone else has a crush…

On Tagg Romney’s pecs. I can’t see who visits my blog, but I can see what search terms are bringing people to this lovely site. And yesterday, at least three searches for the pecs of Mr. Romney’s eldest directed some undoubtedly disappointed individuals to uber goober and everything in between.

Sorry folks! Only Tom Brady’s pecs in discussion here.

yes, change

As thrilled as I am that Clinton took California tonight, I must write about my disgust with Bush. This isn’t even in relation to anything he’s done recently and is old news, so do pardon the nascent political knowledge.

So John McCain is being very conscious about his childrens’ participation in this 2008 campaign. It is most likely a reaction to Bush’s villainous smear campaign against McCain’s adopted Bangladeshi daughter, Bridget, prior to the 2000 primaries in South Carolina. Orchestrated by Karl Rove, Bush’s camp accused McCain of fathering an illegitimate black child, and planted the obscenely false notion in voters’ minds through push polling. McCain was flooded with calls saying that he should be ashamed about Bridget, and the color of her skin.

I had heard the basics of this story a bit ago, but never did any real digging until tonight. Bridget was eight when she heard what the public was saying about her…and discovered it on her own when she randomly Googled her name one night. I can’t believe anyone would so desperately stir up such a disgusting lie, to win an election. As much as I like Clinton and Obama, I’ve lately been thinking about all McCain has weathered and almost want to vote for him out of respect come November. Almost.

i have a crush on obama

Even though I’m 99% positive I’m voting for Clinton…

I love how Obama reached out to Clinton and gave her a little pat on the hand during the debates tonight. Not a chauvinistic pat, a genuinely caring pat.

I love how he pulled her chair out at the end. Not a chauvinistic pull-out-the-chair, a gracious gentlemanly pull-out-the-chair.

I love his grinning pearly whites and his warm laugh.

But alas, Clinton just takes the cake in experience. She was so much more prescriptive and logical in her responses.

If only we could take the personality of Obama and inject it into Clinton!
