just another day at the laundromat

Older man: I could’ve sworn you were 12 when you walked in, but your voice makes me think now that you’re older.

Me: 12? C’mon, really?

Older man: Completely serious. I mean, you still look 12 to me.

Me: So how old do you think I am now?

Older man: Well, hearing your voice and seeing your demeanor…maybe 20?

Me: I’m 25. 26 in two weeks.

Older man: Really. That’s funny. I thought, well how nice, here’s a little girl coming in to do laundry for her mommy.

Me: Nope. That’s my own laundry.

Older man: I have a 15 year Chinese son, adopted through my marriage with my wife. And here I was, thinking I’d tell him about you.

Me: Ah. Yea. Probably not a good idea.

<Older man and I continue to chat about East Coast versus West Coast, art, auctions, etc. I finish folding my laundry and say bye.>

Older man (calling after me): I still don’t believe that you’re 25!

miro for me

UCBerkeley is reinstating a very cool program that allows students to borrow original works of art from the school’s extensive collection to hang in their dorm rooms. Amazingly, the pieces available include pictures from masters Georges Braque and Max Ernst. At a time when Millenials find more interest online than in museums, I applaud Cal’s Graphics Art Loan Collection program in its efforts to expose and encourage interest in the fine arts.

brunch anyone?

Look, it’s breakfast and lunch, in one convenient package. Allow me to introduce the Krispy Kreme Bacon Cheddar Cheeseburger, served by the fine chefs at Google’s NYC cafeteria earlier this summer, in celebration of the cafe head’s birthday:
