aboot
Currently in Vancouver and I LOVE it! The city is fantastic, and there’s so much to explore. Unfortunately I’m quite sick so I haven’t had the energy to see as much as I would’ve liked. I did get a peek at the Robson and Yaletown areas, and they are replete with uber-trendy restaurants, bars and boutiques. Well honestly, I’ve only seen the dining establishments because I’ve been too feverish to wander to the boutiques. But, I hear they do indeed exist, and are adorable. I can see myself living here one day, if I ever had the itch to be Canadian for a few years.
And, it is home to my love Peter Jennings. Who did eventually receive a dual citizenship to America, but was a Canadian by birth.
six flights, twelve days
Yes kids, you heard right. That’s a flight every two days! I’m about to board my third one tomorrow, to Vancouver (for a conference), after having returned from NY last night (for fun). Back from Oh Canada on Thursday, off to Colorado (for skiing) on Friday. Finally back next Monday night.
I’m exhausted.
But lucky
All my flights are through United – they really ought to give me a cookie or something for being so loyal.
happy chinese new year!
That’s it.
someone else has a crush…
On Tagg Romney’s pecs. I can’t see who visits my blog, but I can see what search terms are bringing people to this lovely site. And yesterday, at least three searches for the pecs of Mr. Romney’s eldest directed some undoubtedly disappointed individuals to uber goober and everything in between.
Sorry folks! Only Tom Brady’s pecs in discussion here.
yes, change
As thrilled as I am that Clinton took California tonight, I must write about my disgust with Bush. This isn’t even in relation to anything he’s done recently and is old news, so do pardon the nascent political knowledge.
So John McCain is being very conscious about his childrens’ participation in this 2008 campaign. It is most likely a reaction to Bush’s villainous smear campaign against McCain’s adopted Bangladeshi daughter, Bridget, prior to the 2000 primaries in South Carolina. Orchestrated by Karl Rove, Bush’s camp accused McCain of fathering an illegitimate black child, and planted the obscenely false notion in voters’ minds through push polling. McCain was flooded with calls saying that he should be ashamed about Bridget, and the color of her skin.
I had heard the basics of this story a bit ago, but never did any real digging until tonight. Bridget was eight when she heard what the public was saying about her…and discovered it on her own when she randomly Googled her name one night. I can’t believe anyone would so desperately stir up such a disgusting lie, to win an election. As much as I like Clinton and Obama, I’ve lately been thinking about all McCain has weathered and almost want to vote for him out of respect come November. Almost.
thank goodness for shoulders
Last night, I went to see Social Distortion at The Fillmore – a fantastic punk rock band performing at a fantastic venue. While I realize my physical appearance as a small Chinese female may belie the punk rocker in me, do trust that I was more than thrilled to bang my head about with the rest of the crowd. (Ok fine. I was probably doing more bopping than banging).
Having never claimed to be the early bloomer, I witnessed my first mosh pit up close – a group of grown-men skipping around in a circle, playing bumper cars with their bodies, sweating, grinning, rockin’ out. I quickly learned mosh pit etiquette: (1) If you’re on the periphery of the pit, you are supposed to push at the moshers to keep their circle contained. (2) When someone falls down, you immediately help him up. (3) If someone loses a shoe, you continue to mosh about, but hold the shoe up in hopes that its owner will find you.
I secretly wanted to jump in too, but I would’ve been trampled within five seconds. Besides, it would’ve seemed a bit strange for me – decked out in boots, a cashmere sweater, and shirt from the prep masters at J.Crew – to be dancing about with the black-worshiping, facial piercing, weed smoking crowd. I was content to stand in the sea of 6 foot plus men, and have a great time.
i have a crush on obama
Even though I’m 99% positive I’m voting for Clinton…
I love how Obama reached out to Clinton and gave her a little pat on the hand during the debates tonight. Not a chauvinistic pat, a genuinely caring pat.
I love how he pulled her chair out at the end. Not a chauvinistic pull-out-the-chair, a gracious gentlemanly pull-out-the-chair.
I love his grinning pearly whites and his warm laugh.
But alas, Clinton just takes the cake in experience. She was so much more prescriptive and logical in her responses.
If only we could take the personality of Obama and inject it into Clinton!
