i need a doctor
Anyone have a general doc in the city that they’d recommend? My heart has been beating a little funny lately :O Email me or drop me a comment.
poor condom factory workers
Evidently U.S. condom factory workers are facing increased competition from the Asians.
You can learn about how condoms are made too: “…ingenious contraptions almost as long as a football field repeatedly dip 16,000 phallic-shaped bulbs into vats of latex.” Who knew?
I swear. I am reading real news. And maybe now I shouldn’t let my parents know about my blog.
the important things in life
So I’ve been making a more concerted effort to keep up with the news. Real news, NPR style, not InStyle or the back of Time magazine news.
Unfortunately, I tend to get derailed. But this morning I learned two really cool things!
1) You can now get permanent eyelash “implants” – where they take your normal hair from the root, and sew 40 pieces to your eyelid. FINALLY! An end to my eyelash envy. Now it’s a matter of the $6k price tag…
2) If you’re eating with 3 other people, you will eat 35% more. 7 people, 90% more. In the dark with a big fat sweater, watching tv? A lot a lot alot more.
consumerism
Dammit I just lost an eBay auction in the last two seconds!!!! I was trying to get a somewhat affordable deal on a pair of sneaks. Poo poo, this is going to ruin my night. At least I should be going to bed pretty soon. eBay is so unsatisfying. I keep on losing bids, or forgetting about things that I intend on bidding on at the last minute.
Hmm what happy news do I have that can counter this unfortunate incident? Oh! On Saturday I did buy the most amazing amazing amazing dress at this boutique. My dress isn’t online, but look at these others from same design team, camilla and marc, and you can get an idea of how bee-u-ti-ful it is!
Ok I’m lame. Just looking at the pictures makes me happy again. Now I just need somewhere fancy to go. Anyone need a wedding date?
now playing
My new favorite song that’s not so new is Kanye West’s Hey Mama.
This is pretty embarassing to admit, but I never listened to lyrics until this one night in Athens, when I couldn’t fall asleep and took my nano out to pass time. I was quite impressed with Kanye’s Jesus Walks. I typically only listen to melodies because listening to lyrics requires some sort of concentration and I’ve realized I have difficulty focusing on one thing at a time. That’s actually why I choose not to watch too many movies or tv shows.
Anyway, a friend played this for me a month back and I randomly thought about it again today. These lyrics are much to respect.
my eyes, my eyes! and…sweet potato clothing
So over the past two days, I have watched 14 episodes of Entourage — 11 on Sunday, and 3 yesterday. Yes, 11 on Sunday.
I believe my cheap Chinese blood would have caused extreme guilt had I kept the DVD longer than it’s one night rental. I mean, with the extra $3.75, I could buy 2.5 rides on the Muni, a week’s worth of vegetables from Chinatown, or 375 pennies. Good deal.
This is actually a testament to how funny and well-written Entourage is. I typically never watch TV, minus my morning news, and occasional America’s Next Top Model, Gilmore Girls, and eeks, One Tree Hill. Maybe this is why I don’t watch TV — I’m only attracted to teeny bopper type shows (and the Food Network, but I don’t get cable).
Oh, and in other news, I saw this really interesting article today about ethical fashion. Examples include yarn dyed with sweet potato paste and pieces made from bamboo. Right down my alley
I bought this organic t-shirt from Zara, and it shrank more than normal with the first wash. I wonder if that’s because it’s organic cotton, and the cotton is more prone to shrinking because it’s treated with less chemicals. No idea if that has any truth to it, but organic fruits tend to be much smaller than conventional fruits.
Let’s all go hug a tree.
can i be rewarded for these plugs?
Today is a good day.
I walked by Swensen’s and they have finally come out with their seasonal pumpkin flavor! I’ve only lived in San Francisco for a little over two years now, but that makes three Octobers, and three seasons of Swensen’s pumpkin ice cream. I’m telling you people, it is good stuff.
Now that I’m on the topic of Swensen’s, I’d also highly recommend Okoze for sushi, which is next door. I was originally told that the sushi there melts in your mouth, and if sushi can melt in your mouth, it’s definitely at Okoze.
i better find my tuck everlasting
I remember when:
1) Gas was 97 cents
2) Computer screens were black with green font, and Frogger was the cool game to play
3) E-mail first came to use
4) Kudos bars and Fruit Roll Ups were twice the size that they are now
5) Kids had to physically go to the library and do research using encyclopedias
6) Pagers were the way to go
I’m sure I could on and on. Having a really hard time concentrating at work this morning.
happy birthday to me :)
Wow, that just sounds narcissistic doesn’t it?
It was my birthday on the 8th, and to celebrate, my friend Greg and I threw a joint birthday party Saturday night at Roe. It was really fun! Great to see all my friends in one place. So fun, that I even had to ask Greg what type of music the club was playing the next day because I didn’t remember. True indication of good times.
Quite a few people asked me if I was ok the next morning/hung over/etc…funnily enough, I popped out of bed at 10am, was totally fine, and went to play in a soccer game at 11. I scored too! That was quite exciting because I never score in real games. It must’ve been my birthday present to myself. Well, that, the massage and mani/pedi I treated myself to. And a cab ride to the gym. :p
So let me attempt to post a picture for the first time.
My roomie and I! Everyone knows one of my roommates is Moroccan, but no one’s seemed to have met her. So here is Nezha:
Oh my goodness pictures are such a freaking hassle to put on this site!! No more.
Anyway, birthdays are great. I also must thank my friend Kevin for taking me out to dinner on Sunday. Oh. And it was BEAUTIFUL this past weekend. All and all, I’m a satisfied customer.
warding off alzheimer’s
I went to the chiropracter last week to get a second opinion regarding my neck. A hokey chiro in the financial district had told me that my neck was unnaturally stiff, particularly for my age. Through three months of treatment that included cracking my neck and back, putting me on funny contraptions, and hanging a 5 pound weight from my head, he’d help me get the natural curve back in my neck. You can guess it. It didn’t work.
My coworkers had been recommending this wonderful chiro to me for awhile, so I decided to finally check her out. She confirmed my suspicions: the financial district chiro is stupid and money grubbing. And hokey. She also grew up in Potomac, and went to my high school! Oh the small coincidences.
Anyway, she’s not into intrusive treatments which is right down my alley, since I’m in the camp of drinking plain hot water instead of popping pills when I’m sick. One of her recommendations was to switch the use of my computer mouse to my left hand. It’d not only help alleviate the great tension I carry on my right side (strained by the way I carry my head up), it’d change the shape of my synapses and be very good for the brain. Yes, I did just say that.
So yesterday at work, I switched my mouse over the the left side. It feels weird!!! I was operating much slower than normal, and left hand felt like it didn’t know how to type anymore. I had inspired one of my roommates to try it too, and she said it felt like she was drunkenly using the mouse. =)
Anyway, from now on, I decided to continue using my left hand. It’s kind of fun. You should try it! You’ll be that much smarter.
